Raise the dosage of glucosamine and chondroitin?

2017 March 9

Question:
I use glucosamine and chondroitin and am fairly satisfied. Still, I wouldn’t mind if the dosages were increased. Normally I use 2 capsules a day. Now is my question: is it better to take of each 4 a day?[glucosamine-links]

Answer:
High dosages of glucosamine have more effect. Unfortunately the chance of deterioration of the insulin sensitivity increases. Therefore, we advise against it. Only sportive people who have some body weight, but no belly could consider taking a third capsule.

From chondroitin we have very strong doubts if a higher dosage would give more effect. It would be better to use other active ingredients as a complement. People who use ASU Forte as an addition to glucosamine and chondroitin in generally notice some additional effect.

Since 2009 we offer the combination product Arthro-5. This product does not only contain glucosamine, chondroitin and ASU, but also MSM and hyaluron acids. Hyaluron acids have been administered for many years by means of injections. A few years ago research has shown that hyaluron acid in pill form is effective as well. That is why we added the substance in Arthro-5. The dosage is the same as the dosage that was used during the research.

We receive very positive feedback regarding Arthro-5. For everyone who wants to achieve a maximum effect I advise Arthro-5.

Can fish oil better be put in a small package?

2017 March 9

[omega-3-rechts]
Question:

Recently the chiropractor told my son that it would be better to buy fish oil in a small package, because when using a multi-pack the bottle would be opened too frequently, which would cause the quality to deteriorate. What do you think of this advice?

Answer:
If the oil is in the bottle as a loose fluid, then the oil is likely to oxidise. In that case a smaller package is desirable. With fish oil in capsules this problem does not exist.

When the capsules are opened during consumption, the degree in which the oil tastes like fish  gives a good indication of the freshness. We notice little difference between the first and the last capsules. This supplement is very stable.

Customers regularly tell us that they do not or barely notice any fishy tasty reflux of our fish oil than when they use fish oil of other brands. That is because the fish oil has been deodorised.

Does fish oil (Omega-3) need a high concentration of EPA?

2017 March 9

Question:
I use fish oil of an expensive brand. Your product is three times cheaper, but has a lower concentration of Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA (360 mg versus 650 mg). There is also more EPA in my current product. I heard that that is important. Am I making the right choice when I decide to switch to your product?[omega-3-links]

Answer:
You can find a lot of fish oil supplements containing a lot of EPA. We have always considered it pretty remarkable that so many producers separate EPA and DHA in several products. But now we see that most of these producers have stopped separating EPA and DHA. Logically because everyone needs both fatty acids. The idea that adults don’t need DHA anymore because DHA would only serve as a building material is outdated. It is even suggested that for adult men DHA would be of the most importance.

A fish oil with a higher concentration is handy when there is a high demand for Omega-3 fatty acids without a blood thinning effect. A very high dosage works blood thinning.

For people who use a normal dosage of EPA and DHA, our fish brand Marinoil is a very logic choice. With 1 capsule you receive the dosage  that is recommended by the Health Council. With two capsules you have even ingested twice the recommended dosage.

A higher content Omega-3 acids than in our product can only be achieved when the acids are chemically separated from glycerol. After separation of EPA and DHA of the unwished other acids, EPA and DHA can be “pasted” to the glycerol molecule again.

Glycerol has 3 positions fatty acids can be tied to. By nature DHA is bound to the beta-position of glycerol. As far as I know, producers are not well capable of putting back DHA on the original position. It is assumed that this has consequences for the way the body processes the DHA.

Our fish oil has about the highest concentration EPA and DHA that can be achieved naturally, without any chemical cut and paste work.

Can the substances of Arthro-5 be put in one capsule?

2017 March 9

Question:
I am interested in Arthro-5 with glucosamine, chondroitin, ASU, MSM and hyaluronic acid, 180 capsules of 919 mg, 30 days use. My question now is, should I take 6 capsules a day? Why can’t the quantity be put in one capsule?[arthro-5-rechts]

Answer:
With 6 capsules of Arthro-5 a day you will receive of each of the 5 substances the same amount as of those that have been tested in scientific research. A lower dosage will not give the same effect. But through the strong combination the effect can be pretty good if you take for example half the dosage of 3 capsules. The dosage can be taken at once.

It is impossible to put all 5 ingredients in the whole dosage into 1 capsule. That does not fit by a long shot. Even in 5 pieces it does not fit. From time to time we come across supplements with a long list of ingredients that have been put in one capsule. But those are in such low quantities, and then often also inactive ingredients.

Nevertheless, it would be possible to compress the Arthro-5 ingredients into 2 or 3 tablets. But we do not support that, because then we would have giant tablets, not easy to swallow and heavy on the stomach.

MSM in Arthro-5 completed with extra MSM-powder?

2017 March 9

[arthro-5-links]
Question:

Does it make sense to take extra MSM-powder next to Arthro-5?  Suppose I take Arthro-5, 6 capsules every day 3 months in a row and in addition 20-30 grams of MSM-powder, is the MSM-powder than superfluous?

Answer:
Twenty to thirty grams MSM seems unhealthy to us. That quantity has not been tested on safety. It is not necessary either.  Two dosages have been used in successful scientific research. The one dosage is 1,5 grams, the other 6 grams. For Arthro-5 we apply the lower of these two (also because with the high dosage the number of capsules would double, a too large amount for many people). It is possible to complement the dosage with powder to 6 grams. Since no comparative research has been done, we cannot say if the dosage would me more effective.

On the long run it seems better to use the low dosage. This to minimise the risk of side effects. It may be better to use other supplements like ginger root extract.

Can diabetics use these supplements?

2017 March 9

[chondroitine-rechts]
Question:

I would like to ask if your products can be used by diabetics?

Answer:
Our products can be used by diabetics. When using glucosamine and Arthro-5 it is advisable to check if the blood sugar level does not get disrupted during the first weeks. There is a little chance of this happening with people who have type 2 diabetes (adult-onset diabetes).

To exclude any risk diabetics can choose for chondroitin and ASU Forte. Also Omega-3 can be used by diabetics without any problems.

Can vitamin E and purine be found in fish oil?

2017 March 6

[omega-3-links]
Question:

In most cases vitamin E can be found in fish oil as an antioxidant. Currently I use fish oil and I was curious about that. Then I am also curious about the amount of purines. My chiropractor claimed that this substance is not good for the joints, is that right?

Answer:
Our fish oil contains the natural form of vitamin E, namely mixed tocopherols. This is a balanced mix of several forms of vitamin E (tocopherols). This is better than the mostly used D-tocopherol.

Fish oil does not contain purines. Purines can be found in proteins of fish, not in oil. Although the gelatin wall consists of protein, it does not contain purines either.

Can a higher dosage of Arthro-5 be harmful?

2017 March 6

[arthro-5-rechts]
Question:
I have got a question concerning Arthro-5. I have used this product since about 3 months now with a normal dosage of 6 capsules. Would it harm if I increase the dosage to 7 or 8 capsules? I have been active in sport for years, am 1.95 cm tall and weigh 130 kilos. Because I am somewhat bigger and heavier than average, I have been taking 8 capsules a day since a month. There has been some improvement. Could a higher dosage of 8 capsules have negative effects? I don’t experience any side effects, but would like your advice on the right dosage.

Answer:
For someone with your weight and length a somewhat higher dosage makes good sense. There is a little more chance of negative effects when using 8 capsules. But probably the risk will not be too different from someone of 1.70 m with an average weight who uses 6 capsules a day. I hope the improvement will continue. Maybe by time you can lower the dosage to 6 capsules again.

Apart from Arthro-5 also take glucosamine and chondroitin?

2017 March 6

[arthro-5-links]
Question:

If I use Arthro-5 should I take glucosamine and chondroitin as well?

Answer:
Arthro-5 already contains the recommended dosages of glucosamine and chondroitin. You do not need to take these supplements on top of it. We advise against it to prevent overdosing.

Glucosamine cream?

2017 March 6

[glucosamine-rechts]
Question
:
I have osteoarthritis in my shoulder. I heard that glucosamine cream is hard to obtain. Do you know where I can purchase this cream? Or can I order directly from you?

Answer:
Because there is no scientific evidence for the effect of glucosamine cream, we chose not to sell glucosamine cream. It is not clear if in meaningful quantities glucosamine can be absorbed through the skin and if that were the case, if it were to reach the joint through the underlying tissues. I consider that chance to be very small.
